Why We Became A HYROX Training Club
Over the past decade, one of my favourite parts of being a coach hasn't been watching people hit a new personal best in the gym.
It's been watching members of our community discover they're capable of so much more than they ever imagined.
For many of us, Spartan Race became that vehicle.
We've travelled together, trained together, encouraged one another through difficult moments, celebrated countless finish lines and watched ordinary people accomplish extraordinary things.
Along the way, I became a Spartan SGX Level 1 and Level 2 coach, helping dozens of people prepare for their own Spartan goals. Some of my proudest moments weren't my own finishes, but helping others cross theirs, including guiding my visually impaired friend Sheldon through two Spartan Sprint events.
Those experiences reinforced something I've believed for a long time.
Exercise Is Good, But Training With A Purpose Is Even Better.
Having a meaningful goal gives your training direction.
It helps keep motivation high, provides a clear way to measure progress and often brings out the very best in us.
After more than ten years of Spartan events, I found myself looking for another challenge that embodied that same philosophy while being accessible to an even broader range of people.
The more I learned about HYROX, the more convinced I became that it was a natural fit for what we've always tried to build at BTG.
That's why BTG Fitness became an official HYROX Training Club.
Why Train With The BTG?
Preparing for HYROX isn't simply about becoming fitter, it's about becoming confident.
Could you prepare on your own? Absolutely.
But having an experienced coach, a structured progression and a community of people working towards the same goal makes the journey far more enjoyable and dramatically increases your chances of arriving at the start line feeling ready.
As an official HYROX Training Club, we're part of the global HYROX training network and have access to official resources and support. More importantly, our program is designed specifically around the demands of HYROX rather than trying to adapt a general fitness program to fit the event. You'll train with purpose alongside others preparing for the same challenge.
At The BTG, we've spent more than a decade helping people achieve things they once believed were beyond them.
HYROX is simply the next chapter in that story.
The BTG HYROX Program
Beginning September 25, we'll be running a structured 12-week coaching program designed specifically to prepare participants for HYROX Vancouver this December.
Training takes place in our usual small-group coaching environment at The BTG Garage, combining individual attention with the encouragement and accountability that comes from working towards a shared goal.
Between coached sessions, you'll follow structured homework workouts that continue your progression throughout the week.

Frequently Asked Questions
-
HYROX is an indoor fitness race that combines eight 1 km runs with eight functional workout stations. Every HYROX event follows the same format around the world, making it easy to measure your progress and compare your results over time.
One of the things that makes HYROX so accessible is that the movements are intentionally functional and relatively low-skill. You won't be expected to master highly technical lifts or complex gymnastics movements before getting started.
Whether your goal is to compete, improve your fitness, or simply train with purpose, HYROX offers a measurable challenge that's suitable for a wide range of fitness levels.
-
Absolutely! While you'll see some incredibly fit athletes competing at HYROX events, the vast majority of participants are simply ordinary people looking for a challenge.
One of the things that makes HYROX so accessible is that the movements are intentionally functional and relatively low-skill. You won't be expected to master highly technical lifts or complex gymnastics movements before getting started.
Our program is designed to help beginners build the fitness, confidence and movement proficiency needed to prepare safely and progressively, regardless of where they're starting.
-
Yes. You don't need to be "HYROX ready" before joining the program. That's exactly what the program is designed to help you become. We'll meet you where you're currently at, modify exercises where appropriate, and progressively build both your running fitness and your strength over the 12 weeks. Consistency matters far more than your starting point.
-
That depends on your current fitness and your goals, but for many first-time competitors, around 12 weeks of structured preparation provides a solid foundation. Our program follows a planned 12-week progression, helping you gradually improve your running, strength, work capacity and confidence so that you arrive on race day feeling prepared rather than hoping for the best.
-
Not at all. Many people successfully prepare for HYROX on their own. However, if you're new to HYROX, unsure how to structure your training, or simply want the motivation and accountability of training with others, a structured program can help you make more efficient progress while reducing the guesswork. Our role is to help you train smarter, not just harder.
-
That's completely normal. Most people don't walk into their first HYROX class able to perform every movement confidently or at full race standards. We'll modify exercises where necessary, teach proper technique, and progressively build your capacity over time. The goal is continual improvement, not perfection on day one.
-
HYROX combines eight 1 km runs with eight functional workout stations, so running is an important part of the event. Our program reflects that by progressively developing both your running fitness and your ability to perform the stations under fatigue. You don't need to arrive as an experienced runner, but you should expect to spend time improving your running alongside your strength and work capacity.
-
No. While the program is designed around preparing for this year's HYROX Vancouver event, you're welcome to join even if you haven't registered or simply want a structured training goal. Many people enjoy the challenge of training for HYROX without feeling any pressure to compete. Exercise is good. Training for something is often even better.
-
The current investment for the 12-week BTG HYROX Program is $599 CAD, payable in full before the program begins. Existing BTG small-group members may participate at no additional cost. Class sizes are intentionally kept small to ensure everyone receives plenty of individual coaching and attention throughout the program.
-
Classes take place at The BTG Garage in east Abbotsford, BC, in our private small-group training facility. Because class sizes are intentionally limited, spaces are available on a first-come, first-served basis. If you're interested in joining the next program, we recommend applying early to secure your place.

Looking For A More Personalised Training Experience?
The BTG HYROX Program is built around the energy and accountability of training in a small group. If you'd prefer individual attention, have more specific performance goals, or need training that fits your schedule, one-on-one personal training may be a better fit.
